We’ve all been asked to put our lives on hold during this health/economic crisis, but wedding couples have had the added stress of putting their plans for a future together on hold as well. Our hearts go out to you and we hope you’ll take the opportunity to grow your ability to flex as a couple – a good strength to have in a marriage, for sure.
Coping with COVID-19 Crisis Interruptions
Your Wedding Ceremony and Reception Date/Place
It would be wise to assume the latest date that things will begin to get back to normal. In the United States, we advise not to choose a date before fall begins. While businesses and venues may reopen sooner and vacation rentals may begin taking reservations, many people (think guests) may need more time to get used to the idea of flying or gathering in groups.
Check with vendors by email or phone. Many are working remotely and trying to reschedule or schedule couples’ future celebrations. Do choose a date – it will make you feel a little more comfortable. Note: Fall/winter dates, especially weekends and holidays, will be in demand with pent up desire.
Expiring Florida Marriage License
Did you get a Florida Marriage License Application but cannot get married before it expires? License applications are good for 60 days and unfortunately there are no extensions and virtual wedding ceremonies are not legal in the State of Florida.
Here are your options:
- None of our local Clerk’s offices are conducting wedding ceremonies at this time. But if you live in Florida, you may be able to get married legally by a minister or notary public.
Note: It is not advised to have any size gathering and you should socially distance from that person if you choose a private ceremony.
- You may let the license expire and reapply once you know you can again make plans here in Florida. This does mean you will need to pay the fee, which is $86 – $89, again. Please visit our Florida Marriage License page for links to Clerk of Court offices which should have the most up to date information.
We are available for questions, to conduct wedding ceremonies and to help you schedule your future celebrations! Contact us anytime and our best wishes to you.
