Yay or nay on a first look? A “first look” is when a couple sees each other on their wedding day before their wedding ceremony. It is a private moment for the couple, away from the eyes of family and friends. On your wedding day, much of what happens is public, so the “first look” has been gaining in popularity.
“To see or not to see; that is the question.” Some couples plan to see one another before the wedding for a number of reasons – but most popular is to take photos of the wedding party. Other couples choose to wait to see one another and build the excitement.
More couples are opting for a first look – 45% in 2017, but are prying eyes a good thing or one to forego?
First Look Pros and Cons
There are numerous pros and cons – years from now you will only have your photos and your memories to bring you back to the day. Which one will be better? A great “first look” photo can evoke powerful emotions, but so can the exquisite moment just before the wedding ceremony when your eyes meet! There is no right answer, but it is a good idea to talk with one another about the idea as well as your wedding officiant.
Talk to your officiant about all aspects of your wedding ceremony. Ask questions about what other couples have done to make the wedding ceremony special and meaningful. Also ask what not to do – he or she has seen a lot of the good and the bad. Don’t let the photographer, planner or venue talk you into a timeline that may affect your experience as a couple, unless of course, it fits in with what is truly important to you both.
