Consider getting your Florida marriage license by mail, especially if you are having a destination wedding here. Every couple getting married in Florida will need to have applied for and received a Florida Marriage License. This is the document your officiant will sign or notarize. To solemnize the marriage. While most couples getting married in Florida go to the courthouse to apply for the marriage license, there are options that might be more convenient, or even necessary, if you are traveling to Florida for a destination wedding.
One of the things we hear a lot is that couples don’t want to spend precious time going in person to the Clerk of Court for the marriage license, especially a day or two before the wedding. Or that it is a distance away and they didn’t book a car. Or that they won’t be in town on a business day before the wedding.
You can skip the trip to the courthouse if you start the process with an authorized provider for Marriage License by Mail services here in Florida. It is a remote process where we collect all of the information for the Clerk of Court and we apply on your behalf for the official license. Finally, we take care of bringing it to the wedding ceremony, signing and filing it and having the final document sent to you both after it is recorded as a legal document here in Florida (this is the document you will use to get on one another’s insurance or to change your change following the wedding).
What is required on the marriage license application in Florida? Full names, date of birth, state of birth, social security or passport number, race, address including county/state/country, number of this marriage (if not 1, then date of last marriage ending and if it was divorce, death, annulment) and maiden name if applicable. Providers of this service usually require prepayment as the courts require payment before they issue a marriage license. The cost is anywhere from $295 to $325 depending on whether you live in the United States or abroad.
Once your pre-license is issued, you will both need to take it to a notary public to have your identity confirmed and signatures witnessed. You will also need to sign a document that indicates you do not have children in the State of Florida under the age of 18. Essentially, this the same thing that you would do if you visited one of the Clerk’s offices in Florida to obtain your license in person.
