Micro-weddings, or celebrations of 30 people or less, have been gaining popularity, trending with younger couples who have student debt, dreams of home ownership and the philosophy that less is more. Think micro-brewery, tiny houses, Mini Cooper…its not no taste or no frills by any means…micro weddings are simply a smaller scale version of the traditional wedding.
For couples looking for a more intimate, affordable wedding, it has natural advantages. There are myriad venues, flexibility in changing things at the last minute and everything you need and nothing you don’t. Call it the perfect, petite wedding! Or, another trending term is the minimony.
“We have over the years seen a rise in couples who want it all, but smaller and more intimate,” according to Stacy Prouty, an officiant in Sarasota since 2004. Even destination weddings that used to be 50-75 people are now trending toward 15-30. Couples want it personal and high touch – along with high end food and drink which is pretty doable with a small party.”
